Expected outcome: Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool

Chelsea is coming after a comfortable victory against Brighton to kickstart their PL campaign. The revitalised Chelsea team spearheaded by their star striker Werner and his German teammate Kai Havertz won’t face many struggles in getting the three points unlike their opponents for this week. Last game week, the defending champions Liverpool had an exhilarating encounter against the newly promoted Leeds United – thanks to a hat-trick from Salah.

Looking into Chelsea’s form, they faced Brighton in a pre-season friendly game at Amex stadium resulting in a draw. But, it was followed by a win against the same team within a week. Chelsea relatively has a new squad and their attacking signings haven’t started any game together. Though this is not a problem on a normal day against a mid-table team, their opponents for the next game, Liverpool, might make a wreck out of it. Liverpool has a set team and their ability to get three points out of difficult games even are truly a sign of their success. Although the mild concern for Liverpool fans would be the form post lockdown, as this hasn’t been as promising as it was before.

As a fan of the game, it is interesting to see how the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz come up against Virgil van Dijk who didn’t have the best game against Leeds. The same applies to the sensational Trent Alex Arnold. TAA scored against Chelsea home and away last season, thanks to two brilliant free-kick goals. Chelsea has been given the boost in the midfield with the return of Kante from injury. Summer signings Ben Chillwell, Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva all remain a doubt to be fit for the clash.

During the previous meetings between the two teams, they exhibited an amazing quality of football in recent times. The most recent one was a 5 – 3 win for Liverpool at Anfield which was the last home game for Liverpool of the previous season. In the 28 games between the teams in recent times, including the cup games, Liverpool have won 10 times while Chelsea has won 9 times.

As the record suggests this tie is one of the most interesting games in recent time, certainly one to look forward to. It would take a lot of effort from Chelsea to get all three points from Liverpool early in the season but a draw seems possible as well considering that Liverpool haven’t been in their brilliant best.

To sum up, this will be an exhilarating encounter between the teams. Do enjoy!
