Many things are buzzing around the cricketing world about the twin the captaincy approach for the Indian team, it goes against India’s cultural &cricketing ethos.
Should Rohit Sharma replace Virat Kohli in the limited-overs cricket this is a billion-dollar question, few questions need to be addressed to conclude.
According to the report, the most successful captain in IPL history is Rohit Sharma. If we see the record Rohit Sharma lead MI have won 5 IPL titles in 2013,2015,2017,2019,&2020.
Contrasting Rohit Sharma’s record to Kohli lead RCB in IPL took over from Daniel Vettori in the midway of 2012, it was tough in the first 3 years but Virat Kohli has won 55 matches and lost 63 out of 125 matches
If we compare Kohli’s international record with Rohit Sharma in limited-overs cricket Kohli is not only the most successful captain in ODI cricket, under his belt India has win 62 matches and lost 24 matches.
Even if we see in T20 cricket under first Kohli India has won 22 matches lost 11.
Former cricketer VVS Laxman said, ”unlike England, the split of captaincy won’t work in India”.
But in the recent past, major ICC trophy continues to elude Virat Kohli and his team, India major miss the World Test Championship against New Zealand, On 2017 India lose to Pakistan in ICC Champions Trophy in England, in 2019 against New Zealand in the World cup Semifinal.
Rohit Sharma has not got many opportunities to lead India in limited-overs cricket, but he is brilliant whenever he takes responsibility for his leadership India has won 8 out of 10 ODI, also won the Asia cup 2018 in Dubai and the tri-series against Sri Lanka and West Indies in 2018.
In an interview with Kiran More says India will have a twin captaincy policy board of cricket will think Rohit Sharma will get a chance soon, you all will see this decision after the England tour, he also added what senior players think about the Indian team’s future is important.
As per the Indian team announced Shikhar Dhawan will be the captain against the Sri Lanka tour and Hardik Pandya will be deputy.
The twin captaincy approach will be very much reversal in India’s larger cultural and cricketing supporters, This twin leadership system works in Australia, and England in the Western nations.
But at some point, the question will arise of twin captaincy because India has missed the biggest ICC trophy under the captaincy of Virat Kohli so the board will look into the two-way process allowing Rohit Sharma to lead team India.
If the cricket board thinks twin captaincy will be right for Team India then things to be given to on their hand.
In an interview, with India com Salman Butt said
“I feel Rohit Sharma is a better captain (than Virat Kohli). I had observed his captaincy in-depth during the Asia Cup (2018). The way he operated as stand-in captain, he looked very natural. Coming back to Virat Kohli, India were on top for five years but sadly couldn’t win the biggest match of all, so people are bound to raise questions,” He also added You can be a very good captain but if you don’t win any title, masses won’t remember you. Maybe you are a good captain and have good plans but your bowler may not be able to execute it. So luck has to be on your side as well,”
Meanwhile, Kohli and Co will now get ready for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. It will be a tough assignment for the team. It would be interesting to see the changes that was made in the Indian team.
