MATCH 1 PREVIEW
OVAL INVINCIBLES VS MANCHESTER ORIGINALS
The Hundred Men’s Competition 2021 will begin with a match between the Oval Invincibles and the Manchester Originals. The first game is scheduled for July 22 at Kennington Oval in London.
The event could not have asked for a finer match-up for its season-opening in the build-up to a fresh and thrilling version of cricket. On paper, the two squads are a perfect fit in every aspect. Both forces have several high-calibre, world-class players within their ranks.
The Oval Invincibles’ team included England’s star players Sam Curran, Rory Burns, Tom Curran, and Jason Roy. Meanwhile, Sunil Narine, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Colin Ingram complete up the team’s abroad lineup. Shamsi has been called up in lieu of Sandeep Lamichhane.
The addition of Jos Buttler, Carlos Brathwaite, Colin Munro, Lockie Ferguson, and Sam Hain, among others, strengthens the Manchester Originals. While the Oval Invincibles appear to be batting heavy, the Manchester Originals counter with a potent bowling attack. In summary, expect plenty of fireworks from both teams in this first match!
HOW’S THE PITCH?
The Kennington Oval has traditionally been a batting-friendly venue with short boundaries. However, as the game progresses, bowlers, particularly spinners, will benefit from the surface. Anything between 160 and 170 should be a good score for the team batting first. Teams who win the toss should choose to bat here.
There is good news for supporters, as clear skies are expected on the day of the match. The temperature is forecast to range from 18 to 26 degrees Celsius. It should be possible to play the entire game without being interrupted.
Probable Playing XI
Rory Burns, Jason Roy, Sam Billings, Sunil Narine, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Saqib Mahmood, Colin Ingram, Reece Topley, Will Jacks, Nathan Sowter.
Jos Buttler, Philip Salt, Joe Clarke, Colin Munro, Sam Hain, Steve Finn, Matthew Parkinson, Ollie Robinson, Jamie Overton, Carlos Brathwaite, Lockie Ferguson.
The Oval Invincibles are poised to win this match with a much more balanced-looking lineup.
