Nicolo Barella: The next maestro?

After a long wait of nearly a decade, Serie A saw new champions being crowned as the trophy made its way back to the San Siro in Milan. Antonio Conte’s project at Inter Milan was finally reaping its rewards as inter became one of the most feared teams in Italy while Juventus failed to cope up with a new style of playing.

One of the many shining lights of this tremendous inter campaign was Nicolo Barella, the 23-year-old Italian midfielder who finally had his first-ever breakthrough season and became an instant favorite for the likes of Conte due to his immense work rate and technique on the ball.

THE MAESTRO

Inter Milan came into the new season with an aging Brozovic, the Croatian midfielder was still effective but was entering the last few stages of his career, to add to that they also had to deal with the injury issues to sensi and with the presence of Vidal in the team.

In a sea full of old, aging midfielders they needed someone to be the bright spark to rejuvenate the center of the pitch. That’s where Nicolo Barella comes in, the Italian midfielder is an absolute machine on the pitch. He has the perfect mix of Italian grit and excellence, almost as if you were being made to watch the likes of Gattuso and Pirlo at once, in one single player.

The Italian midfielder recorded 3 goals and 7 assists this season for inter, their best midfielder by far in terms of technique, work rate, defensive output, progressive passes, and output as well.

Along with the likes of Manuel Locatelli, Nicolo Barella is by far the best Midfielder in the league. Barella’s heroics continued in Euros this summer, as he became part of the title-winning Italian team, starting the most important games and being a key player in midfield alongside the likes of Verratti and Jorginho, not to forget his amazing goal vs Belgium in the Quarterfinals.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?

Having a midfielder like Nicolo is every manager’s dream. Barella has proven over the past year that he can play a no.8 role, a no.6 role, and even a no.10 role in midfield. He provides the managers with tactical flexibility, which makes him almost an instant starter no matter where he plays.

It is no secret that Nicolo has attracted interest from the biggest clubs in Europe, but his love towards inter and the current pandemic situation makes it hard for others to lure him elsewhere, Afterall he has been deemed as the future captain for the Nerazzuri by their faithful fans.
