India vs England : Test Review

1 test between India and England on Trent bridge turned out to be a draw as rain washed away the entire 5th day of the test. On the last day India Needed 157 runs to win with 9 wickets remain in hand.  According to the new test championship rules both India and England teams bagged 4 points each due to the draw.

In batsmen category, Joe root has been exceptional with the bat in both the innings. He put up score of 64 in the first innings and 109 in the second innings which was his 21st ton of test career. He was the backbone of England’s batting line up as the top order failed to provide a good start. Following him was Jonny Bairstow who looked in good form and also got a good start but failed to build up a strong knock, he contributed with the scores of 29 and 30 in both the innings respectively.

For India, Rohit Sharma and kl Rahul were successful at providing the start that was needed, however after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma the middle order was not able to capitalise such a good start. KL Rahul who was brought in the team as a replacement for Mayank Aggarwal played a spectacular innings of 84 runs at the time of need for team India. He kept the score board running inspite of the consistent fall of wickets for India.

Coming to all-rounders, both the left hand batsmen, Sam curran and Ravindra Jadeja proved themselves to be of great asset to their team with the bat. Sam Curran played a knock of 27 not out in 1st innings and scored 32 runs in the 2nd innings. He was not as affective with the ball but was able to push the 1st innings score of England to 183.The latter played a crucial knock of 56 runs for India thus providing them with the lead over England which they were looking for. Ollie Robinson, another England all rounder who took his first ever 5 wicket haul that to in his 2nd test match of the career.

The best news for any Indian fan would be that Jasprit Bumrah has got his edge back at the very first test match, he bagged total of 9 wickets including one five wicket haul to his name which was his 6th 5 wicket haul. Apart from that he also contributed 28 runs with the bat which was also a good sign for team India. He is all set for the upcoming test series and we will definitely see him in good form. Shami , Siraj and Shardul have also equally contributed to the Indian balling attack. They have a total of 11 wickets among them. For England, apart from Ollie Robinson it was Jimmy Anderson who changed the course of match by bagging the crucial wickets of C.Pujara and Virat Kohli in two consecutive balls. Jimmy has also surpassed Indian spinner Anil Kumble for 3rd highest wicket taker in test format. He is also the only fast bowler in top 3 category of the same.

It is unfortunate that the cricket of such quality ended as a draw and we missed on a most decisive day of the 1st test match. But considering the form of both teams it can be concluded that the rest 4 test matches are also goanna be equally interesting to watch.
