SEASON PREVIEW 2021-22 WATFORD F.C

Following a dynamite Championship crusade, Watford has tied down a promotion to the Premier League after they were relegated in the 2019/20 season. The Hornets came second in the Championship last season and conceded the least number of goals (30) in the division.

Described by an imposing defense all through last season, Watford were not the most alluring on the pitch, but rather, made themselves hard to beat. The Hornets finished their season with the highest number of clean sheets (23) and represented the highest clean sheet rate (50%) in the Championship last season.

MANAGER

Francisco Javier Muñoz Llompart, known as Xisco, is a Spanish football manager and former player who played mainly a left-winger. He is the current head coach of Premier League club, Watford. In 2019, Xisco rejoined Dinamo Tbilisi as part of the technical team, and in 2020 became the head coach of the club. In December 2020 he was appointed at Watford, achieving promotion to the Premier League the following year.

He doesn’t have much experience in managing a squad, so let’s hope he puts up a show in the premier league. Not getting relegated this season might be an achievement in itself.

EXPECTED LINE-UP

For the most part, playing 4-4-2, Watford shown guarantees when they used to change their shape from wide to diamond 4-4-2 yet the traditional approach of Ivic wasn’t getting them the ideal outcomes. In hope of bringing change to the fortunes, Watford appointed Xisco Munoz, a somewhat less known name, as their head coach for the rest of the season.

Munoz kept on playing with a 4-4-2 formation however the injury to their star forward Deeney constrained Munoz to change the formation to 4-3-3. This change of formation was the best thing that could have happened to Watford. they finished their season on a high note with 27 wins and only 6 points short of the table-toppers Norwich city.

The Senegalese winger can be a real threat to any opposition defenders. He was responsible for beating the unstoppable Liverpool team in the 2019-20 season which helped Watford secure 3 points at home.

He will be starting most of his matches under Xisco and he will expect Ismaila Sarr to live up to everyone’s expectations and help their side remain in the premier league.

Usually starting as a right-winger, Sarr also played as a striker in absence of Deeney last season. Sarr is blessed with blistering pace and he could trouble any defence by using his speed.
