While Indian team has been on English soil for a month for their ongoing Test series against England, a few days ago another Indian team led by Rahul Dravid played two limited over series against Sri Lanka on the Lankan soil. People called this Indian team as B team, but the strength of this team can beat any opponent’s first team.

But did this Indian team produce the expected results? What are the outcomes? Let’s take a look.

India played 3 ODIs against Sri Lanka. While India won the first two matches to ensure their victory in the series, Sri Lankan team won the 3rd and final ODI, a win that gave the Sri Lankan team a lot of confidence before the start of the T20I series.

Let’s keep an eye on some notable stats of India from the 3 match ODI series against the lions.

Player of the series:

Suryakumar Yadav (IND) for his brilliant batting performance all through his debut ODI series.

Most Runs (for India)

Shikhar Dhawan – 128 runs in 3 ODIs

Highest individual score:

Shikhar Dhawan – 86* (15x4s, 1×6)

Highest Batting Strike Rate (minimum 2 games):

Ishan Kishan – 130.43

Most Fours:

Prithvi Shaw – 20

Most Wickets:

Yuzvendra Chahal – 5 wickets (in 2 games)

Best Economy (minimum 2 matches):

Krunal Pandya 3.5 from 2 ODIs

After the end of ODI series, Team India’s confidence was a bit higher as they have won a series and are quite good as a team.

India started well by winning the first T20 by 38 runs. But then the biggest blow came to the Indian camp. Krunal Pandya’s covid report was found positive. He was sent to isolation and 9 other Indian players who came in contact with him were also isolated.

As a result, without these 10 players, the Indian camp has to start preparing for the next two T20Is. But India has lost the remaining two matches and They lost the last one in a very bad way, we have all seen that.

Rahul Dravid, however, is not disappointed. He has inspired the young players of his team in this series, just like he always does. Dravid said that the young players have learned a lot from the series, which will help them a lot in the future.

“They’re all young players, they haven’t played a lot in these kinds of conditions, they haven’t played a lot of international cricket so I think it is a great opportunity to reflect on these performances, reflect on these conditions and maybe come up with some better strategies. Let’s be fair, we don’t get these kinds of conditions very often in T20 cricket, but when you do I think you need to have the response and I think you need to be able to play slightly better. You’re not going to get 180 scores on wickets like this but you need to find a way to get 135-140. So I think it is going to be a good learning for a lot of these young guys. They’re all youngsters and we need to have patience with them and we need to give them more opportunities so that they can develop,” Dravid, India’s coach on this tour of Sri Lanka, said.

“I am not disappointed. I think they’re young batters and they’re going to learn and they have to keep improving and get better. And it is only when they’re exposed to these kinds of conditions and this quality of bowling. I think the Sri Lankan team’s bowling attack is their international bowling attack. They’re missing a few batsmen because of various reasons but this is a top-quality attack. So I am not disappointed,” Dravid said in an interview.

So this series should not be called a failure. These young players are expected to do better in the future, just as their coach Rahul Dravid expects. The remarkable performance of some young players has been noticed in this series. With the ICC T20 World Cup looming, these young players will probably become the heroes of that World Cup. What do you think?
