Jurgen Klopp is set to begin his 7th year at Anfield. After a season that was filled with thorns for Liverpool Klopp will be looking to challenge for The Premier League title once again. After ending a 30-year wait for the English championship Klopp and Liverpool didn’t achieve the heights which they achieved in the prior season. Now, they will set their eyes on bringing the English championship back to England. With their record signing back in the squad Liverpool will be a major contender for this season as well.
Predicted Lineup and Tactics:
(GK) Alisson: The Brazilian goalkeeper will be in front of the goal. Alisson had a season with highs and lows. Usually, the Brazilian is the most reliable in front of the post however, things started to go down the hill during the second half of the season. Alisson will be looking forward to bring back his everlasting dominance in front of the goal.
(LB) Andrew Robertson: the Scottish left-back has been the best left-back for the past few years in the Premier League. His work rates, speed, defensive and attacking mindset are one step ahead of any other player. However, his recent injury is yet to be evaluated. As things stand it is still unclear whether Robertson can win his race against time to start the first game of the Premier League. Kostas Tsimikas will most probably get game time instead of Robertson.
(CB) Virgil Van Dijk: after missing the majority of last season The Dutch Sensation is more than ready to kick off. A strong presence in the backline, he has been dribbled past only eight times in the last 3 seasons of the Premier League. Van Dijk is 30 and his prime years are on the verge of fading away. He will look forward to winning as many titles as he can in the upcoming seasons.
(CB) Gomez: the English centre back has missed most of the season along with his defensive partner. Considering Liverpool’s injury crisis last season, Konate was brought in to add more steel. However, with the amount of experience Gomez has in the Premier League he is expected to retain his spot. Pressure will be mounting up on Gomez as there are replacements that can easily catch up to him with a single mistake.
(RB) Trent Alexander Arnold: A right-back who loves to adventure in his opponent’s territory. He might not be defensively reliable bit TAA has more to offer rather than his defensive traits.
(CM) Fabinho: The Brazilian centre mid was the highlight of the season for Liverpool last season. Defensively strong and fully capable to produce quality balls searching his teammates in the final third if given the space and time to operate.
(CDM) Jordan Henderson: Liverpool captain will be back to dominate the midfield. The English midfielder is a crucial player for The Reds as he keeps his team together with his leadership skills. Henderson gives Liverpool a defensive edge which allows them to be more defensively stable.
(CM) Thiago: Former Bayern Munich player who has the ability to create a chance for his strikers at any point in time. He was unable to show his true colours at Anfield last season. However, it won’t be a surprise if he bounces back.
(RW) Mohamed Salah: The Egyptian winger has left his footprints in the Premier League and they are not going to fade away any time soon. Salah is deadly because of his quick feet and ability to cut inside instantly. His left foot is enough for him to produce magic with the ball. Salah will be the key for Liverpool’s attack this season once again.
(CF) Roberto Firmino: Firmino is not a striker, he acts as a false 9. A link between wingers and midfielders, he operates in space which ensures a quick play between his teammates. His main focus is on assisting his teammates rather than going to score himself.
(LW) Sadio Mane: The Senegalese winger is ready to burst out from that left side whenever the ball falls in his path. Mane along with Salah is an important pillar for this Liverpool side. There has been unrest between Mane and Klopp, however, keeping things aside they will be looking forward to continuing to work together.
Liverpool depends on high pressure and quick counter-attacking style. Liverpool maintains their defensive shape to avoid their opponents from getting into their box. They keep on applying pressure from time to time forcing out a mistake from their opponents. Possession is not a key concern for this team. However, against teams who adopt the same policy Liverpool try to create goals from possession play and they continue to adapt their original strategy by trying to counter-attack whenever their opponents enjoy possession play.
