How will the UCL Champions fair against Viera’s Crystal Palace

The Blues are on a high after winning the Super Cup by beating Villarreal on penalties after drawing 1-1 till the extra time. Chelsea throughout the game not only played well but was the better side as they had more possession, more control of the match and everything. It was expected that Chelsea would win the match in 90 minutes, but Unai Emery’s side gave a very strong fight but in the end, Chelsea won it all. On the other hand, Crystal Palace is full-on with their training and their new signings.

Pre-season review

Chelsea had a very good preseason as they played 3 by winning 2 and drew 1 against spurs. Chelsea recently announced Romelu Lukaku as their new signing after 115 million deals with Inter Milan. Lukaku is very doubtful about this opening match, but he’ll definitely play in the 2nd game week. Crystal Palace under their new manager, Patrick Viera have played 6 matches by winning 3 lost only 1 and drew their last pre-season match 1-1 against Brentford. For Chelsea players like Danny Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Trevoh Chalobah played extremely well along with Hakim Ziyech, who was not quite upto the mark in his first season in the Premier League has shown what wizardry things he can do. But in the match against Villareal, after scoring a goal due to a bad tackle on his shoulder he went out on a stretcher! Many reports claim that he may be out for atleast 4 months which is a big loss for Thomas Tuchel.

For Crystal Palace, Wilfred Zaha was quick to impress their manager, Patrick Viera, as he not only scored a winner in one of the pre-season games but also scored the decisive penalty against Ipswich Town which earned them a victory.

What to expect from both of these teams?

The last time they faced each other, Chelsea comfortably beat the Eagles by the margin of 4 goals to 1 where Kai Havertz scored 2 and Pulisic and Zouma scored 1 each. For the eagles, Christian Benteke was the only player on the scoresheet.

Players to watch out

Mason Mount who was outstanding the whole season would definitely be a player to watch out for along with Christian Pulisic as he would get more chances as Hakim Ziyech is out for 4 months. Timo Werner is also the player who could score in this crucial game. According to many, he didn’t live up to the expectations but this could be the season he could prove his doubters wrong! It would be interesting to see who does start as the goalkeeper as Kepa helped Chelsea win on penalties but Edou Mendy also gave a solid performance in the 120 minutes! For the eagles, Wilfred Zaha is the player to watch out for! He would definitely score atleast one goal. Along with him, Joachim Anderson would give an assist following their pre-season games.

For the prediction, Chelsea could beat Crystal Palace 2-1  courtesy of a Werner strike which would make his PL campaign get underway and a goal from Mount whereas Zaha could get a consolation goal in the last few minutes.

Is Chelsea assured of a win or can crystal palace spoil the party? What do you think?
