Five Goals and a Five Star Performance from Manchester United

Goals from Fred, Greenwood and a hat trick from Bruno Fernandes knocked Leeds out right off their feet. Paul Pogba was at the heart of Every United attack. Even though he missed out on his chance to feature on the scoresheet, The French mid-fielder left his mark on the game with his tally of assists. For the majority of the game, The Red Devils were in the driving seat, controlling the nature and the flow of the game. In terms of possession, both teams were at par however United edged past Leeds in terms of chance creation and execution.

As it happened:-

Rafael Varane’s Unveiling

The moment all United fans waited for came true right in front of their eyes. Rafael Varane walked in before the game started. Although, he wasn’t the part of the squad to face Leeds he walked in to greet Man United fans present at Old Trafford.

First Half Story

Moments before Paul Tierney blew the whistle to kick off the game, players took a symbolic stand to continue their fight against racism. Taking the knee before the game begins has now become a tradition. A gesture that represents the never-ending fight against discrimination of all kinds. Leeds kicked off the game but it was Manchester United who governed the laws of the game. Putting pressure on Leeds defence to force out mistakes and testing Meslier was the story of the opening half. Within ten minutes Leeds started to show the signs of cracking as Pogba found himself one on one with Meslier. Pogba had every chance to put United in front considering his quality in terms of finishing. However, he made things more difficult for him by shifting the ball on his weak left foot and going for a near-post finish where he didn’t have a lot of room to go wrong.

Players of such calibre don’t hide after missing out on such opportunities; they continue to play their natural game as Paul Pogba did. In the 30th minute mark, Pogba produced a delicious ball over the players to find Bruno. The Portuguese maestro quickly gasped upon the opportunity to slip it past between Meisler’s legs.

Second Half Action

The intensity of the team in red started to increase after Ayling produced a rocket from his foot outside the box giving no chance to De Gea. In three minutes Greenwood fired his team back in front after Pogba once again pierced Leeds shape and formation. From an acute angle, Greenwood found the bottom right corner with a low driven shot. Eight minutes into the second half Pogba once again found Bruno who cuts back to his left foot to finish things off in style. Five minutes later Lindelof in search of attacking runs produced across from the half-line. Once again Leeds failed to clear out the ball. Realizing the space and time Bruno smashed the ball with his first touch into the back of the net. As the ball looked to break the net Bruno celebrated his opening day hat trick. To finish off things Fred converted a pass from Pogba to complete a five-star performance, adding the icing on the cake.

There is no better way to start a campaign with such dominance. United was quite determinant in their performance, they hardly slacked off throughout the 90 minutes. With such performance, Man United will be looking forward to their upcoming fixtures and continue their winning run.
