The reigning UCL Champions are high after not only winning the Super Cup against Villareal but also beating Crystal Palace in their 1st home game in front of almost 38 thousand fans. They comfortably beat the Eagles side by 3 goals to nil courtesy of a Marcos Alonso free-kick, a debut goal from academy product Trevor Cholabah and another goal from Christian Pulisic.
Chelsea will come onto this match with much more confidence as not only they secured their win on Gameweek 1 but also their new signing i.e their new no.9 Romelu Lukaku will start the match according to coach, Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel also said that as Kante suffered an injury in the Super Cup, he will also be available for this match. Hakim Ziyech who also suffered a shoulder injury will require 2 more weeks to get back to full fitness. It will also be interesting to see who does Tuchel start upfront? Lukaku or Werner or maybe both.
On the other hand, Arsenal didn’t quite have a good start to their PL campaign as they lost 2 nil against newly-promoted Brentford.
Brentford won their first top-flight match after 74 years that too in front of their fans. That was a very poor performance from the Arsenal side, many would disagree by saying that there was no Aubameyang or even Lacazette but still this
was a match that everyone expected Arsenal to win. Even one of their Arsenal’s main sponsors the Rwanda President criticized the Arsenal team and said that some main changes should be done.
The only positive thing for Arsenal right now is that they have signed Martin Ødegaard from Real Madrid for almost 40 million which is to be signed till 2026. Ødegaard also came on loan last season, the Arsenal board was highly impressed by him and so he was the main target in this transfer window. Ødegaard will NOT play against Chelsea due to the quarantine rules.
Arsenal did rare trouble last season as they beat Chelsea at home as well as away. This happened for the 1st time since 2002.
Can they achieve this again this season? They usually after getting a goal, sit back and defend, unlike Tuchel’s blues who still try to attack after scoring a goal.
Probable starting XI:
For Chelsea, even after Ziyech and Kante injuries, Tuchel has confirmed that both of them will be in the squad but are very unlikely to start. Christian Pulisic was tested positive for covid-19 along with Rubenloftus Cheek who was unavailable against Crystal Palace.
For Arsenal, after a negative covid test, Aubameyang will be in the squad against Chelsea whereas Lacazette who again had a covid positive test will not be available for Sunday’s clash. Arsenal also signed a new goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for a reported fee of 24 million. Arsenal’s manager Arteta is not sure whether he will be in the squad or not.
Unlike last year, in this season Chelsea will get the better of Arsenal. As Aubameyang is not fully fit and Lacazette is not in the team, Chelsea can boost their chances of beating Arsenal in their own bridge at the Emirates Stadium.
After an Emil Smith-Rowe strike, goals from Lukaku and Mount will help Chelsea win this tie 2 goals to 1. Let us know your predictions below.
These are the probable starting XI of both teams.
