After a brace from Angel Correa secured victory against Celta Vigo in their first encounter, Atletico is up against Elche in their second outing. Where Atletico won the La Liga title, Elche made a great escape from the relegation zone by two points. While one team is in contention for challenging the league title the other struggles for their place in top-flight football. Elche began their campaign with a draw against Athletic Club. In the previous season, Atletico Madrid faced Elche on three occasions. The Madrid side had an upper hand in every single one of them. Atletico will be dwelling on those performances to get a result. For Elche, a stalemate against Atletico will not be anything short of a victory.
Both teams have faced each other on twelve occasions. Atletico has dominated this tie by registering nine victories. Elche on the other hand has managed two victories in those twelve encounters. Atletico has an 80% chance of winning this fixture. However, when Atletico are favoured by such odds they only have a 76% probability of victory.

Current Form and League Standings
Atletico Madrid: – W / 6th
Elche- D / 14th
Angel Correa: The Argentine is certainly one of the game changers for Atletico. Slotting in for Luis Suarez as a striker rather than on his usual right side of the pitch, Correa caused all sorts of problems for Celta Vigo defenders. His calmness and the ability to finish chances is certainly one of the assets for Diego Simeone. Correa is swift with the ball. His ability to manoeuvre through defenders is one of the highlights of his game. After his performance in the opening match, it will be tough for Simeone to rule him out against Elche.
Thomas Lemar: the French player certainly showed off his true game in the opening fixture. Lemar did most of the work to create the first goal. Just like a Ferrari, he left Celta Vigo players dead on the pitch. His explosive space and last performance can give him an edge over Carrasco who was one of the most consistent performers for Atletico in their title-winning campaign
Missing Key Player
Joao Felix: after sustaining an injury during Euro 2020, Joao Felix has been recovering in Madrid after having an operation. His return date is still unclear. According to the reports, Felix can return to the first-team action somewhere in September. An instrumental player in Atletico’s last campaign, Felix is a player whose presence is surely being missed upfront by Simeone.
Mario Hermoso: the Spanish centre back is set to miss the second game. He picked up a red card in the dying moments after a clash with Mallo in a very heated moment. Both players were shown a straight red card for their feud. Hermoso is currently suspended and he will miss out on the clash against Elche
Pablo Piatti: it won’t be a surprise to see Piatti start on the bench or even being left out of the squad. Piatti is suffering from a knock; Elche management will be looking to preserve Piatti and not risking him which may aggravate the injury.
