After a comfortable win against England, Team India looks to continue its dominance leading into the third test match, as a win over England in the next match would guarantee that India does not lose the series. The match is scheduled from 25th to 29th August.
This 5-match series between India and England will be crucial for both teams, as it is their first series as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-2023. In the previous inaugural edition of the World Test Championship, England finished 4th, while India made it all the way to the finals, ultimately losing a close match against New Zealand.
Out of the 2 matches that have taken place so far, India currently leads the series 1-0, with the first match being a draw, and India winning the second match by 151 runs. Hence Team India looks to maintain this momentum going into the next match.

The main highlights of the first match for Team England were Captain Joe Root’s 64 in the first innings and a century in the next, and James Anderson picking 4 wickets for his team. For India, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja scored 84 and 56 respectively, while Jasprit Bumrah picked an astonishing 9 wickets. With India unable to complete its second innings, the match was drawn.
In the second match, KL Rahul managed to score a century, scoring 129 runs, while Rohit Sharma scored 83 runs in the first innings. James Anderson picked up 5 wickets in the innings. In the following innings, Joe Root scored 180 runs for England, while Mohammed Siraj picked 4 wickets for India. However, Team India turned the game around in the final innings of the match. With only Ajinkya Rahane and Mohammed Shami scoring half-centuries, Mohammed Siraj once again picked 4 wickets to seal India’s win and a lead in the series.
As we saw, Joe Root and James Anderson have been the strongest players for England so far, managing to perform well in nearly all the innings that have taken place so far in the series, with Root scoring two centuries including an incredible score of 180 and Anderson picking up multiple necessary wickets in both matches.

As for Team India, KL Rahul has performed well with the bat, with a century in the second match, while Jasprit Bumrah has stood out with his bowling, taking 9 wickets in the first match. Mohammed Siraj has got everyone’s attention as well, with 8 wickets in the second match which ultimately led to Team India’s victory. All of these in-form players will be present for the third match and will be willing to display their skills.
India and England have clashed in a total of 128 test matches. England has the upper hand, winning 48 matches, while India has managed to win 30 matches. The remaining 50 matches have ended in a draw.
The last time India and England played in a test series was earlier this year, where India won the 4-match series 3-1 and advanced to the World Test Championship final, where it ultimately came up short.
A win in this series will provide both teams with a boost, which is necessary as the World Test Championship continues, and India and England look to add this one title that is missing from their accomplishments.
