Which players should MADRID buy to replace their ageing Midfield?

Tony Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro are the 3 pillars of Madrid’s success over the last couple of seasons. Ever-present and consistent in their performances, all three are Los Blancos’ Iconics.

Real Madrid attained peak dominance in Europe when they won three consecutive Champions League titles under the management of Zinedine Zidane. While the majority of the focus was on Cristiano Ronaldo, it was the midfield of Kroos, Casemiro and Modric who quietly ran the show.

But with time these players have gained age and if rumours are to be believed, Real Madrid is looking for a major reshuffle in the next season. Madrid is in their transition stage and the Italian head coach Carlo Ancelotti is the new man on the mission at Spanish Capital.

So here are some potential midfielders that Los Blancos could consider signing.

   1.Nicolò Barella:

Date of Birth: Feb 7, 1997

Age: 24

Foot: Right

Height: 1,72m

Current club: Inter Millan

Barella is considered a promising and highly talented young midfielder in the European sports media. He is a versatile player who can be used as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder, but his favourite role is as a right-sided, offensive-minded central midfielder, known as a “mezzala” in Italy.

He operates as a box to box midfielder. He is known for his strength and stamina but the 23-year-old is a fine tactician with tidy skills on the ball.

As the heat map suggests he is capable of providing options in the attacking phases of the game. He drops back whenever possible and his vision and the ability to dribble past players makes him a perfect signing for the Los Blancos.

2.Eduardo Camavinga:

Date of Birth: 10 November 2002

Height- 1.82m

Foot- Left

Current club- Stade Rennais F.C

Eduardo is one of the hottest teenage prospects in European Football. He is more of a forward driving centre-midfielder. He is not quite a box-to-box player because most of his actions are connected to his initial position in the centre and usually the middle third, meaning that in that corridor he either forces a turnover, makes clearances or advances the play.

What adds a degree of spectacle to his game are dribbles and offensive one-on-one actions. He averaged 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes for the 35 Ligue-1 games last season.

This player will surely be a perfect young gun for the Los Blancos and his addition to the team will bring Ancelotti a variety of new tactics to play out.

3.Houssem Aouar:

Date of Birth: 30 June 1998

Age- 23

Foot- right

Club- Lyon

Over the last half-a-decade, France has continuously produced world-class talents, all of whom are trying to pave their way to a bigger team.

The Frenchman came through Olympique Lyonnais’ youth academy and got his breakthrough in the 2016-17 campaign and was promoted to the senior team. In 2018-19 he had seven goals and seven assists, playing in several positions across the pitch.

Though he plays at central midfield, he has the characteristics of a player playing higher up the pitch. From deeper positions, Aouar is an outstanding progressor of the ball from half-spaces. Aouar is one of the most coveted goal-scoring no 8s in Europe.

He has come up clutch on several occasions for Les Gones, most recently in the game against Juventus, where he stayed on the left flank and assisted the only goal of the game.
