Salah scores but the Reds held to a draw against Chelsea.

It was at the 44th minute just before half-time, Chelsea concedes a corner. Liverpool take it and after a lot of tries, Diogo Jota puts the ball into the net but defender Reece James first saves it using his thighs and chest but unfortunately the ball touches his hand, the Liverpool players started to argue with the referee for handball and that the referee should use VAR. Referee Anthony Taylor doesn’t watches the whole video but sees that Reece got a hand to it and as a result gives a penalty to Liverpool but gives a RED CARD to Reece James. It was not a deliberate hand ball even the Liverpool players knew it. That RED card was very HARSH! In the 45 + 3 minute, Salah scores from the penalty spot and equalized 1-1. Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel was furious with this red card decision even the Chelsea players were not happy with this as a result, Rudiger  and Chelsea goalkeeper Edou Mendy took out their frustration and got themselves a yellow card!

Team news:

For Chelsea, Tuchel made only 1 change that is N’golo Kante started the match ahead of Matteo Kovacic. Zouma was not in the squad as he completed a move to London rivals West Ham for a fee of 30 million. On the other hand, Fit Andy Robertson started ahead of Tsmikas. After a brilliant display against Burnley, Elliot maintained his place in the starting XI. The Brazilian duo of Fabinho and Roberto Firmino also restored their place instead of Naby Keita and Diogo Jota.

After an engaging first half, in the 2nd half Tuchel made 2 changes and made his team more defensive like as due to a red card, Chelsea goal scorer Kai Havertz was subbed off along with N’golo Kante who had a little ankle injury and accordingly Thiago Silva and Matteo Kovacic took their places. Liverpool created a lot of chances in the 2nd half but still could not get a goal. They had 75 percent possession as compared to Chelsea which was only 25 percent! Liverpool had total 25 shots as compared to Chelsea which were only 6. Liverpool also had 7 shots on target but all were saved due to Chelsea’s goalkeeper and the MOTM Edou Mendy who was excellent especially in the 2nd half. Edou Mendy made 6 saves against Liverpool which was highest for any goalkeeper and it was also the highest for any Chelsea keeper since 2018/19 season.

Overall, Liverpool couldn’t get past Chelsea’s firm and rock-solid defense who were 10 men as compared to Liverpool’s 11.
