Ansu Fati: The New King of Barcelona

Ansu Fati made the perfect return for Barcelona as he scored in a 3-0 victory over Levante after being out of action for over 10 months. Barcelona fans were delighted by Ansu’s inclusion in the squad and welcomed him by giving a standing ovation.

The Camp Nou erupted once again when Fati started his solo run and produced a sublime finish from outside the box. After going winless in their last three games, the Catalans dominated Levante the whole game and Ansu’s goal was the icing on the cake.

Under Bartomeu, Barca’s philosophy of bringing academy products shifted to buying high-priced superstars. But, Ansu’s rise made Barcelona believe in their academy again. Alongside Ansu, Riqui Puig and Illaix Moriba made their impact and all the Barcelona fans around the world were happy with the increasing growth of these individuals.

Since Neymar’s departure, Barcelona cashed in loads of money to fill his void. Up to 300 million was spent on Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele to replace the Brazilian. However, it wasn’t the solution Barcelona needed.

Coutinho failed to impress and Dembele hasn’t been able to replicate his form and has been battling injuries. But an unknown La Masia graduate, Ansu Fati, stepped up to the opportunity.

At the age of 16, Ansu Fati became the youngest goalscorer in the history of Barca and became the third-youngest goalscorer in the history of LaLiga.

Fati produced a man of the match performance against Valencia in 2019 as he scored within 2 minutes before assisting one as he dazzled through the defenders before squaring the ball to De Jong for a tap in. Fati bloomed under Koeman and looked very lethal as the 18-year-old scored 5 goals in 10 games in his second season.

But after suffering a knee injury, Fati went through three surgeries which delayed his return to the pitch. Everyone had doubts whether he would be the same talent that the world had witnessed, however, Fati proved everyone wrong with a powerful finish and made the fans stand on their feet.

Since Messi’s departure, nothing has gone according to what the fans or the club would have wanted but Fati’s return to the side has injected the impetus and enthusiasm into the Blaugrana fans.

Ansu is technically supreme and capable of playing every position in attack and is smart for his age. He’s versatile and can play left, right, as well through the middle. He has that raw pace to get past defenders and his dizzy dribbling does the magic for him.

Ansu’s biggest attribute is his finishing, the Spain International has the poacher’s instinct to get between defenders and attack the ball. Fati isn’t even 20 yet and is operating at the sharp end of one of Europe’s most competitive leagues.
