It’s Match 53 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the battle of kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Thursday afternoon.
Chennai Super Kings have been one of the teams to beat in IPL 2021, as they have been in all the seasons they have played, with young Ruturaj Gaikwad starring for them in recent matches, young Sam Curran has been ruled out of the IPL which will be a big blow for the Chennai Super Kings.
However, the Super Kings will want to seal an all-important top-two finish with a win against the Punjab Kings, who are all but out of the reckoning for a top-four finish. Although, Punjab Kings will look to end their IPL 2021 campaign on a high against MS Dhoni’s side, making for a tough contest in Dubai.
Punjab relies mainly on their top order and lack of game-changers in the middle order has been the main concern for them throughout the season.
At one point they were cruising well against RCB but ended up on the losing side by just 6 runs. They need to have a close look at the results of KKR, MI, and RR for their qualification scenarios. But Currently, they are in the 6th spot in the standings with 10 points.
CSK vs PBKS, IPL 2021, Match 53
Date and Time: 7th October 2021, 3:30 PM IST
Venue: Dubai International Stadium, Dubai
A good batting track beckons at the Dubai International Stadium despite there being some pace, movement, and bounce available off the surface for the bowlers. The pacers should get the new ball to swing early on, especially in the powerplay overs, keeping the batters on their toes. Meanwhile, the batters will look to bide their time in the middle before shifting gears. The spinners will come into play in the middle overs to try and make use of the skewed dimensions of the ground, adjusting the field accordingly and forcing the batters to play against the spin towards the longer boundary. Both teams will look to bat first upon winning the toss, with 160-170 being a good total at the venue.
CSK vs PBKS Probable Playing 11 Today
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c&wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, and Josh Hazlewood
KL Rahul (c&wk), Mayank Agarwal, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Moises Henriques, Shahrukh Khan, Sarfaraz Khan, Harpreet Brar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Ravi Bishnoi
Players to watch out for –
KL Rahul: KL Rahul has been in terrific form for Punjab. Although, he hasn’t been able to score them convincingly, at a quick rate. However, with Punjab already out of the running for a top-four finish, Rahul would want to unleash himself against the Chennai bowlers, making him one to watch out for in this game.
Aiden Markram: Aiden Markram has blown hot and cold for Punjab in the UAE leg after being called in as a replacement. However, he has shown signs of promise against spinners, which should hold him in good stead. Adding in his off-spin makes him a good option to last during the middle overs.
Moeen Ali: Moeen Ali’s form has tailed off in recent games, but he remains their enforcer in the middle overs along with Markram. Given Punjab’s spinners, especially Ravi Bishnoi, who is likely to be deployed in the middle overs, Ali is one to watch out for.
Faf du Plessis: Faf du Plessis has been brilliant with the bat for Chennai in the UAE leg with his clean hitting in the powerplay overs serving him well. Faf’s experience and form bode well for CSK and he should provide a good outlet for points in this clash.
Ruturaj Gaikwad: Ruturaj Gaikwad is stealing the show with the bat for Chennai Super Kings. Currently, he is second in the list of leading run-scorers in this tournament, having scored 521 runs in 13 matches, which includes one century and 3 half-centuries.
Mayank Agarwal: Mayank Agarwal is a bit under the shadow of Lokesh Rahul, but has done well in the second leg of the IPL, scoring 2 half-centuries in his last 4 matches.
Ravindra Jadeja: Ravindra Jadeja is one of the premier all-rounders in the Chennai lineup. He has done a remarkable job with his all-around performances in this IPL. In 13 matches, Jadeja has scalped 10 wickets at an economy of 6.75 and has also scored 212 runs at an average of 70.66. Adding to that, his rocket arm at backward point will make batters hesitate to steal the singles inside the ring.
Mohammed Shami: Mohammed Shami has been phenomenal in the second leg of IPL. In the last 5 matches, he has already picked up 10 wickets, with the best figures of 3 for 21.
Chennai Super Kings are likely to win this one with a more balanced side and to finish in the top 2, unlike their opponents who pretty much have nothing to lose.
