England vs West Indies match preview

The world cup campaign for both England and West Indies starts on 23rd October at 7:30 pm IST. The match will be played on Dubai International ground. It will be the 2nd match from the super 12.

Every team would be looking to start the tournament with a win to have the advantage of momentum which helps in boosting the morale of the team.

England won 1 warm-up match against kiwis and lost 1 match against India. Their batting order looks very strong with the combination of Jos Buttler, Jason Roy and David Malan in the top 3.

Then they have Jhonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone in the middle which beautifully anchors the innings in the middle overs. For finishing they have the likes of Chris Woakes and Moen Ali.

England’s bowling has always been their strength, inform Mark Wood and Adil Rashid are the players the team is counting on.

West Indies:

The Caribbeanโ€™s lost both their warm-up matches to Pakistan and Afghanistan. they might be the defending champions but this year they look a little loose.

They have been struggling the most in the batting department. They have match-winners like Even Lewis, Hetmyer, Chris Gayle, Pollard and many other big names, but, they have not delivered as per their standard as of yet.

The same problem comes to the bowling department as well. The chances of the West Indies team looks little to none this year but let’s hope they give good competition.

Pitch report-

The pitch in Dubai favours batsmen especially in the early stages i.e. power play. Both teams will look to capitalize the first six overs. As the match progress, the spinners come into action. Considering the firepower of both the teams it looks like a high scoring match as the ball will come to the bat quite smoothly.

Key players-

  1. Jos Buttler-

He has been an absolute beast in T20 format who bats with a strike rate of 140. He will be an important player for England in this whole tournament.

He has the potential to win any game all by himself. There are very players like these and he is one of them.

  • Shimron Hetmyer-

He holds the key to the batting lineup of the West Indies cricket team. He is a very explosive batsman. You will see him batting at the number 4 position and he will play an akin role which Rishabh pant plays for the Indian team.

  • Moen Ali-

Ali has been playing IPL so currently, he is the most regular cricketer in the whole England squad and he will surely score runs and get wickets as well in the pitches of Sharjah and Abu Dhabi especially.

  • Kieron Pollard-

He is the leader the West Indies side is counting on. He knows how to lead with the bat and as well as with the ball. His slower deliveries are to date very tough to bat against.

He will go home with 1 wicket to his name in each match. We will also see him finishing the innings with huge sixes down the order.

  • Mark wood-

The speedster of England. He has 26 wickets in just 11 matches to his name in T20 internationals. His speed will help him a lot in the slow pitches of Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

England is starting the tournament with a big win as of now. But you can never underestimate the Caribbeanโ€™, after all, they are the defending champion. I would say the odds are 80-20 in favour of England. Comment down your thoughts and let us know about your odds.
