The All-India Senior Selection Committee has selected a 16-member squad for the forthcoming T20I series against New Zealand, according to the BCCI advice. India will play three Twenty20 Internationals beginning November 17th, 2021.
For the in-house T20I series against New Zealand, Rohit Sharma has been selected captain, while KL Rahul has been named vice-captain. The BCCI revealed the Indian squad for the T20I series against New Zealand on Tuesday.
India’s three-match home series will begin on November 17 and conclude on November 21. The contest will be held in three cities across India: Jaipur, Ranchi, and Kolkata.
Virat Kohli, who stepped down as captain of India in the shortest limited-overs format, has been rested for the three-match series.
For the T20I series, Team India has named a 16-man squad. There are seven batsmen in all, including two wicketkeepers, two all-rounders, and seven bowlers. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Axar Patel, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Deepak Chahar, Mohammed Siraj, and Yuzvendra Chahal are among the main new additions from the World Cup roster.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was recognised for his continuous performances in the IPL 2020, IPL 2021, and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, and Axar Patel were originally scheduled to play in the T20 World Cup, but have since been added to the T20I series. Venkatesh Iyer, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, and Avesh Khan have been recognised for their outstanding performances in the IPL 2021. Yuzvendra Chahal, on the other hand, makes a surprise appearance after being left out of the T20 world cup squad.
While many expected Shikhar Dhawan to be recalled in the shorter edition of the game, the selectors have stuck with Ishan Kishan for now, with Suryakumar Yadav being an easy inclusion in the middle order.
New Zealand has already named their squad for the two Tests and three Twenty20 Internationals that will be played in India. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced last week that Trent Boult and pace allrounder Colin de Grandhomme had withdrawn from the upcoming two-match Test series against India due to the potential of more time in bio-secure bubbles and regulated isolation.
