The ICC has given Pakistan to host the 2025 Champions Trophy tournament, after which many questions have arisen. The ICC Champions Trophy tournament is called the Mini World Cup. The last time Pakistan won the title by defeating India in the final of the Champions Trophy tournament in 2017. Now to save the same title, Pakistan has got the hosting of this global tournament from the ICC.
Pakistan is included in the dangerous countries of the world, where the threat of terrorist incidents remains constant. After the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus in the year 2009, countries around the world avoid going to Pakistan to play cricket. Now the biggest question is whether BCCI will send Team India to play cricket in a dangerous country like Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. A big update has come from the Government of India in this matter.
After ICC gave Pakistan the right to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that the government will monitor the security situation in Pakistan at that time. The decision on whether the Indian cricket team will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy will be taken in due course. The Champions Trophy is the first ICC tournament to be hosted in Pakistan since the 1996 ICC ODI World Cup. When asked whether the Indian cricket team would travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy or not, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that the Home Ministry would be involved in the decision making in this matter.
Thakur said, “When there are such global tournaments, there are many things to consider. In the past also you must have seen many countries coming out to go to Pakistan and play, because the situation there is not normal. There security is the main challenge, as teams have been attacked in the past, which is a concern. Therefore, when the time comes, then the government will take a decision based on the circumstances. The Home Ministry will be involved in the decision making. Meanwhile, a BCCI official said that it is too early to say anything in this matter. It is too early to comment now. The incident is of 2025. Whatever the government says, we will do it accordingly.
India has not toured Pakistan since 2005-06
No bilateral cricket series has been played since 2012 due to political tension between India and Pakistan. India has not visited Pakistan since 2005-06. At the same time, Pakistan last toured India in 2012 for ODI and T20 series. The Indian team last toured Pakistan in 2005-06 and since then India has not played a single match on the grounds of its neighbors.
Can Team India refuse?
Being an ICC event, the Indian team cannot refuse to play in it and as a result Team India will go on a tour of Pakistan. Now it has to be seen whether BCCI will send Team India to play cricket in a dangerous country like Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy. Similarly, recently the New Zealand team had returned from the Pakistan tour due to security threats. In such a situation, it is difficult to say how much the situation will change by 2023 and 2025.
