The IPL will feature two new clubs in its 15th season, bringing the total number of teams to ten. The auction for the new teams took place on October 27 at the Taj Hotel in Dubai. After winning the bidding, the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) and CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte Ltd) have joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) as new franchises.
The RPSG company paid INR 7090 crore in bidding for the Lucknow franchise, while CVC paid INR 5625 crore for the Ahmedabad IPL franchise. In this article, we’ll look at who both of these teams might choose as their captain.
Here are the players that both teams may look to recruit as captains for their respective squads. Because a major auction will be held before the next IPL season, these T20 stars will potentially benefiting new organisations.
- David Warner
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) decision to release their top left-handed batsman may be the finest news the two new IPL franchise management are hearing right now.
Warner, who was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Dubai, was the tournament’s second top run-scorer with 289 runs at an average of 48.16, including a knock of 53 off 38 deliveries against New Zealand in the Finals.
It wouldn’t be surprising if his current hot streak lands him a record deal in either Ahmedabad or Lucknow.
- Ravichandran Ashwin
As previously said, the Delhi Capitals have announced their four retained players, and regrettably, Ashwin is not one of them. This means that Lucknow and Ahmedabad have a fantastic chance to sign a top cricketing brain and captaincy prospect.
The 35-year-old had a strong showing for India in the T20 World Cup, which was followed by a strong showing in the just finished three-match T20 series against New Zealand at home.
- Shreyas Iyer
With a strong track record as a T20 skipper and an intriguing prospect for a long-term addition to any IPL team, Iyer could well be the greatest Indian bet of all for the new clubs.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Lucknow or Ahmedabad tried everything they could to get him into their team. Iyer was the second-highest run scorer for Delhi Capitals in the 2020/21 IPL season, barely behind Shikhar Dhawan, despite missing this year’s IPL due to injury.
- KL Rahul
Before the auction, KL Rahul is the hottest property available. In the last four years, he has been the most consistent batsman in the IPL, scoring more than 590 runs on every occasion.
Rahul scored 626 runs in IPL 2021 and 670 runs in IPL 2020, earning him the orange cap. According to rumours, Rahul is expected to take over as the next captain of Lucknow. KL Rahul was reportedly promised more than 20 crore by Lucknow for his services.
- Suresh Raina
Raina’s captaincy of the Lucknow side will be fantastic for the team’s popularity, as he is Uttar Pradesh’s most popular cricketer. Suresh Raina previously led the Gujarat Lions from 2016 to 2017. Under his leadership, the team qualified for the play-offs as well. Raina, who has previously led a Gujrat-based team, may be appointed Captain by CVC Capital.
He was the Chennai Super Kings’ vice-captain.
- Steve Smith
In 2017, Steve Smith captained the Rising Pune Supergiants, a Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise. Given that the club reached the final under his leadership, the RPSG organisation may consider appointing Smith as the Lucknow franchise’s captain. Smith was on the Delhi Capitals roster, although he hasn’t been in the XI for a long time and will be auctioned off next season.
- Ben Stokes
In the IPL, Ben Stokes has been inconsistent, but he is a world-class talent. In the Ashes 2021, he is expected to make a comeback in cricket. Due to his all-around ability, Stokes will undoubtedly fetch a high price at the auction. He can bat anywhere in the order and is a classic player in terms of fielding and bowling. Any team in the league would benefit from having a player like Ben Stokes.
- Faf du Plessis
It’s fair to assume that what happened to du Plessis, the Proteas’ most effective white ball scorer, who was dropped from the T20 world cup, is unfortunate once again in the IPL. The man with the second-most runs in the IPL 2021, on the other hand, should take it all with a grain of salt and concentrate on what is ahead.
The huge backlift, whirring blade, and flashing grin all point to a man who fights like an everlasting battler, doing what has earned him 2935 runs and numerous man of the match awards.
- Eoin Morgan
Eoin Morgan is regarded as one of the greatest captains of his generation. In terms of limited-overs cricket, his tactical mind has been revolutionary. He has also performed admirably as a captain in the IPL.
He has a win percentage of 47.91%. Despite his poor form with the bat, he was able to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL final in this season. Add to that his experience in this format of the game.
- Dinesh Karthik
If Karthik is willing to take on the captaincy once more, he is a solid candidate for the Lucknow & Ahmedabad franchise to consider, given his experience with the Kolkata Knight Riders and his ability as a middle-order batsman who can also wear the gloves.
Karthik has a fantastic IPL record as an end-over specialist, with 1,040 runs scored at a strike rate of 177.77. When Karthik is on form and fire, his batting and glovework provide a terrific balance to the side.
