Punjab Kings Analysis: Retained Players & Targets

Only two players have been retained by Punjab Kings ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh, a young bowler, are among them. Veteran cricketers like KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, and fresh talents like Ravi Bishnoi and Shahrukh Khan have been freed. This means that Punjab Kings will have a new captain in the upcoming season. Mayank is a good candidate for the captaincy.

Punjab Kings (PBKS), one of the franchises that have yet to win an IPL trophy, has a lot of work to complete before competing in the forthcoming IPL super auction in 2022. Their main goal will be to build a solid core and a formidable team that can serve the franchise for the next few years during the auction.

●   Mayank Agarwal

In the PBKS lineup, Mayank Agarwal remains the most crucial Indian batsman. Mayank has had a successful career with the Indian Test team so far.

The Calm & Intelligent Batsman

Mayank can hit the ball hard and long, and he’ll be vital in helping PBKS put up big numbers. In 2019, he hit two half-centuries and scored 332 runs at an average of 25.53. He had an exciting 2020 season, scoring a magnificent century against the Rajasthan Royals and excelling against the Mumbai Indians in the iconic double super-over game. Mayank is a seasoned player who will be crucial to the Punjab Kings’ success in 2022.

●   Arshdeep Singh

The young seamer has gone a long way from making an impression with the Indian Under-19 team in New Zealand to being a major component in Punjab’s bowling attack.

Punjab’s Bowling Talent

The young star’s talent and skill level wowed famous Indian batsman Rahul Dravid, who watched him compete in an under-19 Challenger event in the CCI media box. The 6’3′ bowler was noted for using his size to his advantage, as he was able to earn a spot in the Punjab Kings starting eleven after taking 12 wickets in 11 games during his first two years with the organisation.

The IPL provided the ideal platform for him to take his talent to the next level, as he collected 30 wickets in 23 games, including a 5-wicket haul.

Some top players PBKS should target for auction 2022

●   Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan might be a solid like-for-like substitute for KL Rahul in the Punjab team. In 2020 and 2021, he enjoyed two outstanding seasons with the Delhi Capitals. In 2020, the 35-year-old scored 618 runs, and in 2021, he scored 587 runs.

Even though he is no longer a part of India’s T20 squad, he can contribute significantly as an opener in the IPL. The 35-year-old is in great shape and appears to be getting better with age.

●   Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya was hired by Mumbai Indians using an RTM card during the IPL 2018 Auctions. He was, however, an uncapped player at the time. Punjab Kings can now take on Krunal Pandya.

Krunal Pandya, the 2017 IPL final’s ‘Player of the Match,’ provides excellent balance to the XI. The Baroda all-rounder might play a vital role in the XI at No.7. Punjab Kings can have a steady batsman who can step up if wickets fall early, and Krunal, of course, can always provide a few overs of off-spin.

●   Eoin Morgan

Eoin Morgan, one of the finest in the industry, will search for a leader for the Punjab Kings. Morgan is a leader who brings out the best in his team, whether with the English side or in the IPL with KKR last season, where he transformed the franchise’s fortunes in the second leg.

While his bat-handling skills have been questionable, however, the experience he gives is priceless. Furthermore, he’s difficult to stop once the Englishman gets going, and his firepower is something PBKS has lacked in recent seasons.
