Why is De Jong a good midfielder for Ralf Ragnicks new Manchester United?

Manchester United is reportedly planning a €55 million (£47 million) bid for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

As Barcelona attempts to collect finances to upgrade their team during the January transfer window, the Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a move away from Camp Nou.

Xavi, the head coach of the La Liga club, has stated categorically that De Jong, who is thought to be of interest to Manchester City, is not for sale.

The Spanish club has a number of financial issues. Joan Laporta, the club’s president, is looking to sell players to raise funds. Xavi is not a fan of Coutinho, who has been underwhelming since joining from Liverpool in January 2018.

Laporta reportedly wanted to move him to Manchester United and was also in talks to sign Edinson Cavani. The 13-time Premier League champions, on the other hand, have their sights set on luring Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford.

Rangnick has already identified RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara as a potential all-action midfielder for his team, thanks to his Red Bull ties. When the Malian midfielder is combined with De Jong, United will have a new lease on life in the middle of the park, with plenty of defensive cover.

De Jong’s ball-carrying abilities and ease with which he can beat a press in his own half, while not an evident weakness at Old Trafford, are particularly outstanding – and the Dutchman might thrive in the high-tempo environment of Premier League football.

Furthermore, with Fred’s resurgence as a box-to-box threat for the Red Devils, De Jong might be paired with the Brazilian in Rangnick’s midfield. https://twitter.com/livescore/status/14681860236077342

A Good Move

The former Ajax player is regarded to be a good fit for Rangnick’s style of play. Given this, Man United should do everything possible to sign him. The German manager will be at Old Trafford for at least two and a half years, and the club must take use of his experience.

The leadership backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by bringing in Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer transfer window. They must now rally around the present manager, especially as he has far more experience managing a football club than the Norwegian.

De Jong might potentially be a good Paul Pogba alternative. After his contract expires in the summer, the Frenchman is free to leave. The Dutch international has a terrific age profile and is skilled enough to fill the possible vacancy with ease.

Frenkie de Jong Overall Career Stats

  • Apps (Subs): 275 (27)
  • Goals (P): 27 (1)
  • Assists: 8
  • Yellows: 21 (2)
  • Reds: 0
  • Min Played: 22365

Barcelona’s hesitation to accept the offer derives from the fact that De Jong signed a deal with the Catalan club for €86 million that extends until 2026. The La Liga club will not initiate talks until Manchester United makes a bid with more than €70 million. Barcelona have no intention of selling De Jong since Xavi sees him as an important component of his long-term ambitions, but the club’s financial difficulties may force Laporta to consider any offers.
