When Ousmane Dembele joined FC Barcelona, he was the hottest prospect in Europe. For Dortmund, the French international was outstanding, and he was the team’s top player. The Blaugranas, on the other side, had parted ways with their global sensation Neymar. For the French prodigy, the Catalan club paid a hefty sum of €105 million-plus €45 million in add-ons.
Dembele’s career took a turn for the worse after a promising start. During his four seasons at Camp Nou, the French international was injured 13 times and missed 98 games. During his four seasons with Dortmund, he made 119 appearances, scoring 30 goals and assisting 20 others. Dembele’s consistency was lacking, and he only showed flashes of his Dortmund days with FC Barcelona.
His current deal will run out in June 2022. Despite the fact that he is expected to sign a new deal, a number of premier European teams are interested in acquiring the French international’s talents.
Dembele would be fit on either side of Massimiliano Allegri’s systems, which value verticality and spatial play. If the manager opts for a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation, the Frenchman would be a perfect fit. Any opponent would have difficulty defending him and Federico Chiesa down the flanks.
In light of this, Ousmane Dembele would be an excellent addition. The 24-year-old has already been linked with a move to Turin. First and foremost, the move will be financially beneficial since Juventus is sure to provide the Frenchman with the contract he desires.
● Newcastle United
Newly wealthy Newcastle will undoubtedly be connected with any high-paid player that becomes available in the transfer market.
According to reports, the Magpies are giving Dembele a five-year contract worth €15 million (£12.6 million) every season, plus a €15 million (£12.6 million) signing bonus.
Dembele would undoubtedly fit the bill as a high-profile attacking addition to St. James’s Park, but the player is unlikely to be enticed by a relegation-fighting side.
● Borussia Dortmund
With the signing of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United and the possibility of Erling Haaland leaving the club next summer, the club is in flux. Dortmund has to create a new long-term strategy. A return to his former club, where he was both unplayable and untouchable at times, would almost certainly be in the cards.
Ousmane Dembele would not require much time to settle in at Signal Iduna Park because he is well-versed in both the club and the league. In his one and only season in Dortmund, the French international scored six goals and added 12 assists. During his time on the field, Dembele was involved in a Dortmund goal every 113 minutes.
● Paris Saint-Germain
With 10 months left on Mbappe’s contract, the Parisians would be prudent to sign Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer next summer. During his time at Barcelona, the former Dortmund player played alongside Messi. Dembele would be a great replacement for Mbappe if he were to go.
In terms of playing style, both players have a similar approach. They both offer a lot of direct gameplay and a fast tempo. They are clinical as well as imaginative. If the Parisiens were to sign Dembele, they would make money.
