Everything you need to know about India Vs South Africa ODI Series

After losing the Test series to South Africa, Team India will now play an ODI series. On Wednesday, the opener of the three-match ODI series will be played in Paarl. After July 2021, India will play its first ODI series. Shikhar Dhawan was the captain the previous time India played an ODI against Sri Lanka. Now that Rohit Sharma has taken over as the team’s permanent captain, he will be unable to play in this series owing to injury. In his absence, KL Rahul will captain the team.

Paarl will host the first and second One-Day Internationals. The first match will take place on the 19th, and the second match will take place on the 21st. On the 23rd of January, the third One-Day International will be held in Cape Town. For the second year in a row, Team India will be aiming to win the series on African soil. In 2018, Team India defeated South Africa 5-1 in a six-match series at home for the first time.

  • South Africa

The hitters from South Africa are in excellent shape. Temba Bavuma was outstanding in the test series and would like to replicate his performance in the ODI series. Rassie Van Der Dussen, who was also playing the red ball, looked great. The player to keep an eye on is Janneman Malan.

In the test series, Kagiso Rabada was unplayable, and he will pose the same threat in white-ball cricket. Marco Jansen has the potential to transform the game for South Africa.

  • India

India’s preferred opening duo is Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad. With Virat Kohli and either Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav in the middle order, KL Rahul is expected to bat in the middle.

R Ashwin will play his first ODI match since returning from injury. Unless they rest Jasprit Bumrah and play Prasidh Krishna, Jasprit Bumrah will likely play.

It will be an interesting experience to see Virat Kohli in the squad rather than as captain. Due to the absence of Hardik Pandya and the fatigue of Shardul Thakur, Venkatesh Iyer may be given the opportunity to play his first ODI match. It’s probable that India will only bring two spinners to the match because Ravindra Jadeja isn’t on the roster. Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal may make the cut if such is the case.

  • Pitch Report

The Boland Park pitch in Paarl is a well-balanced surface. In the last five meetings at this site, the average first innings score has been 260 runs. The team that wins the toss should bat first because the team that bats first has won the majority of the games played on this venue.

Probable Playing XI:

South Africa – Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Quinton de Kock (wk), Dwaine Pretorius, Andile Phehlukwayo, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi

India – Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav/ Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Venkatesh Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal
