The BCCI has released the list of players who will be auctioned off in the IPL 2022

The BCCI has released the final shortlist of cricketers who will be auctioned off in the 2022 IPL on February 12 and 13, with 590 players making the cut.

There are 228 capped players, 355 uncapped players, and seven players from Associate Nations among the 590 individuals shortlisted for the auction.

With each of the ten clubs hoping to purchase between 21 and 23 players in the auction, 48 players have set their basic price at Rs 2 crore. The BCCI, on the other hand, has selected ten players from this list for inclusion in the ‘marquee list,’ which will serve as the auction’s starting point.

The marquee set, which will open the auction, features ten top cricketers: David Warner, R Ashwin, Trent Boult, Pat Cummins, Quinton de Kock, Shikhar Dhawan, Faf du Plessis, Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada, and Mohammed Shami.

“The marquee set will be followed by a full round of capped players by speciality β€” batsmen, all-rounders, Wicket Keeper/batsmen, fast bowlers and spin spinners, and then proceed into a full specialism round of uncapped players,” the BCCI has informed the franchisees.

Last month, 1,214 players registered for the auction, but the final list includes 44 new names, including Jofra Archer, who the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) recently announced is in the final stages of his recovery from elbow surgery, with a return to all cricket scheduled for June.

Archer will be part of the accelerated batch of players, which will begin with player No 161, according to an email given to franchises by IPL chief operating officer Hemang Amin. Amin further stated that the ECB had stated that Archer was “unlikely” to play in the IPL 2022 and that any franchise that signs him will be unable to find a substitute.

●   No Chris Gayle & Ben Stokes

Gayle, regarded as one of the IPL’s top talents, has opted out of the 2022 auction. Gayle has six hundred, the most by any batsman in the tournament’s history, and with 4965 runs in 142 matches, he is the tournament’s eighth-best run-scorer.

After England’s devastating 4-0 loss in the Ashes, it was suggested in the British media that Stokes might not put his name in the IPL auction and instead play County cricket. After suffering a finger injury while playing for the Rajasthan Royals the previous season, Stokes missed the majority of the season.

Mitchell Starc, the Australian fast bowler, is also not in the auction. Steve Smith, David Warner, and Test skipper Pat Cummins are among his teammates who have registered.

South African batter Rassie Van der Dussen has also entered the auction, despite the absence of Temba Bavuma, the limited-overs captain. Van der Dussen and Bavuma were key players in South Africa’s recent victory over India in Test and ODI series at home.

The auction list has 20 players with a reserve price of INR 1.5 crore, and the list of cricketers has 34 players with a reserve price of INR 1 crore.

The IPL has always been a place for young cricketers to shine and make a name for themselves on the largest stage. As a result, a few U-19 players, like Yash Dhull, Vicky Ostwal, and Rajvardhan Hangargekar, will be up for grabs during the IPL big auction in 2022.
