IPL 2022 will be staged at four locations across Mumbai and Pune

According to a report published by Cricbuzz, the IPL 2022 season will be held in four locations, three in Mumbai and one in Pune. Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium are the three venues that will stage a total of 55 matches. The MCA International Stadium in Pune will host the last 15 matches.

According to previous reports, the BCCI is preparing an alternate venue in case of a spike of Covid cases in the country. Other countries, such as South Africa, are said to be in the works. However, increasing vaccination rates and a decrease in Covid-19 infections in the country should persuade the board to hold IPL 2022 in India.

This year’s IPL will be bigger and better, and the BCCI is considering hosting the full tournament at home without any problems. According to reports, IPL 15 would be hosted in Maharashtra, specifically in Mumbai and the neighbouring city of Pune, to lessen the risk of a bio-bubble breach.

Each of the ten franchises will play four matches at the Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium and three at Brabourne and MCA International, according to the schedule. The number of matches in the upcoming season has increased due to the addition of two additional teams.

The league’s start date has yet to be determined, although the host broadcaster, Star Sports, is pushing for a March 26 start date, with March 27 as a second option. The IPL governing council meeting scheduled for February 24 will make the final verdict on the matter.

The BCCI had originally set March 27 as the start date but is now contemplating Star’s request to begin IPL 2022 on March 26. According to reports, Star wants the IPL 2022 season to begin on March 26, a Saturday, in order to host a double-header on March 27, a Sunday. There has never been a double-header on the first day of the IPL before.

“We understand that starting the league on Saturday allows the broadcaster to get the league off to a fast start with three matches in the first weekend. That would be impossible with a Sunday inauguration. The BCCI and the broadcasters were in talks about it, and it may happen on March 26,” according to a franchise official.

With three matches planned on weekends, the competition will go off with a bang. As a result, it may attract more viewers and fans’ attention.

Furthermore, tournament broadcasters Star has sent an official email to commentators requesting that they keep their availability for the event from March 17 to June 7, 2022, i.e. 10 days before the tournament and 5 days after the competition. As a result, the IPL 2022 tentative dates are March 26 to June 2.

Because the IPL 2022 will have ten teams, the league will feature a total of 74 matches. The format will be similar to that of a double round-robin tournament. During the league stage, each team will meet another team twice. The top four clubs will advance to the playoffs.
