How close is Gabriel Jesus to join Arsenal?

Gunners feel confident about securing a deal for Man City’s Gabriel Jesus over the line.

Arsenal expected to seal the transfer by paying £30m since the Brazilian has only one year left on his contract. However, Man City demanded £50 million for his services and considering that this could be a transfer to a direct rival. Arsenal is confident of reaching an agreement with City and will offer a deal closer to City’s expectations. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal and City are nearing an agreement near £45 million.

Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez joining Premier League champion Manchester City was the final nail in the coffin for Gabriel Jesus, who has played only 51 per cent of games in the last five seasons. Keeping the World Cup in his mind, the Brazilian is desperate for consistent playing time. Man City will allow him to leave this summer and will cash in on him.

City believes that the striker is yet to reach his true potential, and a transfer to a direct rival will come at a high price. Gabriel is still 25 but has accumulated over 150 Premier League appearances under Pep Guardiola. It will be a great addition to Arsenal’s young guns, who need a clinical striker to lead the line. Jesus is Premier League proven and has an excellent record in front of goal.

Along with an out-and-out striker, Jesus provides a lot of other things that might help Arsenal to push their limits even further. In the past couple of seasons, Jesus has played as a striker, left and right winger and false nine. Arteta has already managed Jesus under his ranks while serving as assistant coach to Pep Guardiola. Last season, Arsenal scored 61 goals compared to their xG of 69.4.

The lack of goals proved to be a game-changer as Spurs racked up goals after goals and would have benefited from goal difference even if they would have finished with the same points as Arsenal. Gabriel Jesus could be the final piece to Arsenal’s hopes of Champions League football next season.

Gabriel Jesus still has a point to prove since his arrival at City. The striker was expected to be Sergio Aguero’s successor but failed to become an undisputed starter under Guardiola. The striker has never made more than 22 starts in a Premier League campaign under Pep, with most of his appearances coming as a super-sub. Gabriel Jesus will get his opportunity to shine if he joins Arsenal as the club needs a leading figure in their attack.

But Arsenal isn’t the only club chasing Jesus. As reports suggest, Chelsea has shown interest and might lure him to Stamford Bridge. Arsenal still feels confident about recruiting their priority target as they have been in contact with his agents since January. They are in a pole position to sign him if they reach an agreement with City as Jesus is open to a move to North London. The only hindrance in completing the action is the difference between the valuation of both clubs.

Many reports state that the player’s agent will travel to London to close the transfer as soon as possible. Stay Tuned with The Sportsway for more updates.
