Is Skriniar the important piece of the puzzle for Paris Saint Germain?

PSG and their UCL woes:

PSG are active in every transfer window to improve their ranks in pursuing a Champions League trophy and stamping their glory on Europe, but they have failed in every effort in the past decade. The Qatar-backed club signed players like Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Neymar, Mbappe and even one of the greatest of all time, Lionel Messi, to fulfil their dream of winning a European trophy. Yet, they came short every time. PSG came closest in 2018-20 extended season.

Neymar for 222 million was the transfer that turned the tables in the transfer market, and the market hasn’t been the same since that transfer. With player prices increasing rapidly, they even signed Mbappe for a sum of 180 million in the same transfer window, and this was thought to be enough for them to win the UCL, but they managed to jinx it somehow.
PSG has invested far too much in their attackers over the years, neglecting the frailties in their defence. The attackers they sign are huge superstars in themselves, and they aren’t able to create a synergy among themselves because football is a game of 11 men playing together, after all. Individual superstars can never win you titles, but this season they are doing it a bit differently and going in for Inter’s Milan Skriniar.

Why do they need Milan Skriniar?

The Slovakian has impressed one and all with his ball-playing skills, aerial duels and one-on-one situations, previously linked to top clubs like City and United. Skriniar is the leader of Inter’s defensive line. He is described as a leader on and off the pitch by his coaches. With PSG already having a bunch of superstars in attack, they need a character like him in defence who can marshall the defence line with Ramos being out with injuries for most of last season.

With Marquinhos being a solid centre-back for PSG over the years and the pace of Kimpembe, Skriniar might be the last piece of the puzzle for PSG to win the biggest trophy in club football.

Inter and PSG are already in talks for a 80 million bid plus the add-ons, but the late arrival of Chelsea into the race might be an alert for the Parisians to close the deal as soon as possible.

The following 72 hours would be crucial in this deal and would determine where Skriniar would go and whether PSG would be able to land their man. We expect them to do so because PSG can splash the cash if they really want Skriniar.

Let’s wait and watch where this deal settles down eventually. Stay Tuned with The Sportsway for more updates.
