Ind vs Eng: Pant’s maiden century establish India’s win in the Series!

India clinched the ODI series by defeating England by five wickets in the decider match. The series ended on a high of 2-1 for Indian fans. Batting first, England sent skipper and master batsman Jos Buttler who scored a 60. Opener Jason Roy made a significant contribution of 41. India had bowled out England at a total of 259 on the board. Pandya bowled a 4/24 to strike terror in the English innings. Yet, the show-stealer was Rishabh Pant.

Pant dominates the Second Innings :

The second innings was off to an unstable start, with the Indian batters collapsing. However, the match took a miraculous turn as Rishabh Pant came onto the pitch. He scored his first ODI century with an unbeaten 125. Pandya supported him with a 71 off just 55 balls. The visitors overhauled the target in only 42.1 overs. Rishabh Pant was given the Man of the Match. Hardik Pandya won the Player of the Series award.

The decider in Manchester saw a show of boundaries. The Pant-Pandya duo smashed the ball out of the park to be a complete entertainer for the spectators. It was this knock that helped India win despite being in a tricky, uncertain situation. The game wrapped for a reverse sweep by Pant and another boundary to this magnificent innings.

The first half of the game saw a clear dominance on England’s side. Indian bowlers shone brightly to bring respite from time to time. Chahal picked up three wickets while Siraj struck in one over to pick up two wickets. From England’s side, Topley picked up three wickets to make the match competitive.

While playing safe is not Pant’s forte, this innings saw his stature as a batsman of immense talent. Both the team’s playing eleven looked formidable and promised an interesting match which it served. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said he was “very pleased” with the match. He praised the two youngsters saying, “They played great cricketing shots”.

Celebration for the Men in Blue will last a long time as this game will be praised for some time to come. Both the batsmen and the bowlers did a phenomenal task in the series. There is hope to win the upcoming matches as well, as the team gets ready to move on and face the West Indies.
