Will Sadio Mane bring in the X-factor in this young Bayern side?

Bayern gets their main Mane from Liverpool as Bayern start planning their future without Robert Lewandowski.

Sadio Mane had only 12 months left on his contract at Liverpool and decided to join the German champions after Liverpool’s loss in the Champions League final. Senegalese captain joins Bayern Munich on a 3-year deal for a fee of around €41 million. Bayern has already started planning life without Lewandowski, who wants an immediate move to Barcelona following his disputes with the Bayern board.

Mane enjoyed a very successful spell at Anfield since joining the club in 2016. The 30-year-old won the Premier League, Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup, Carabao Cup and UEFA Super Cup with the Reds and left as a Liverpool legend. Sadio Mane wants a new experience after spending eight years in the Premier League since his debut at Southampton. Mane has played every position in the attack under Jurgen Klopp, and this isn’t the only trait he brings to the table.

Along with his versatility and pace, he carries a poacher’s finish to the attack and has stepped up to the occasion several times. Mane’s performances in the knockout stages of the Champions League have been phenomenal, and with Bayern’s recent bad luck in the early knockout stages, his signing might bring an X-factor to the team. Similar to Thomas Muller, who has played second fiddle to Robert Lewandowski for years, Mane has done the same job for Mohamed Salah in the past few years.

This might be the reason behind his motivation as he will play a new role of a proper no.9 considering that Lewandowski leaves this summer.

Julian Nagelsmann will have a lot of options in setting up the team that already has a bolstering attack, but Mane’s addition makes it even better.

His movements and positioning are so unpredictable, which leaves defenders wondering how to mark him. After being part of Jurgen Klopp’s team for six years, Mane has mastered the Gegenpressing tactic and leads the pressing by being the aggressor. Julian Nagelsmann and Jurgen Klopp are both huge admirers of this technique and have built their systems around it. As a result, Mane would be a perfect fit if he leads the line for Bayern. Bayern Munich has done brilliant business in landing Mane, who is still enjoying his prime, for just €35 million.

Mane can operate as a winger, striker and centre-forward and has a great record of scoring from all these positions. Nagelsmann faced a lot of criticism after Bayern’s defeat to Villarreal in the quarterfinals of the Champions League as he failed to break down the defensive setup from Unai Emery. Mane is a player that can break down such defences through his movement and ruthless finishing. Liverpool faced Villarreal in the semis, and Mane scored in both legs to ensure their place in the final of the Champions League.

Bayern Munich has struggled to reach the finals of the competition, however, when you add a player of Sadio Mane’s calibre to a team full of great individuals at each position, then you can call them one of the favourites to lift the trophy. Stay tuned at The SportsWay for more updates.
