Everyone needs a mentor to guide them through the tough times of their lives. Football Clubs are incomplete without their managers. Their tactics and decisions in very intense games change the match’s fate. Many great managers have been as Sir Alex Ferguson, Bob Paisley, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho, Carlos Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, and Jurgen Klopp, with their trademarked tactics and have moulded the modern football foundation. But football has seen many managers fail at their clubs.
Mikel Arteta was appointed as the manager of Arsenal on 20 December 2019. Since his arrival, he has failed to make an impact with the Gunners. He won his first match on 1 January 2020 against Manchester United in the Emirate Stadium. He won his first cup at Arsenal, beating his rivals Chelsea F.C for a 2-1 at the FA Cup final. On 29 August 2020, he led Arsenal to win the FA Community Shield against Liverpool on penalties. Unfortunately, this remains his only success with the London-based club. However, UEFA doesn’t consider Community Shield as a major trophy as it goes for charity. He has signed a deal till 2023 and has only won a trophy since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium.
Since his arrival, Arteta in Arsenal, they have spent over £350 million. He has so far signed Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Jesus and most recently, Oleksandr Zinchenko. He has sold players like Emiliano Martinez, Mesut Ozil, David Luiz, and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, which shows his poor planning on the attack of Arsenal.
They had a good last season, but they themselves bottled up the 4th position in the table. Leading themselves to fail to qualify for the Champions League, and slip into the Europa League this season. Arsenal has been very patient with Arteta and still waiting for him to show results. Being one of the Big Six Clubs, this performance as a manager is very disappointing, and if it continues, they might sack him from the position. Stay tuned at TheSportsWay for more updates.
